{"id":49,"date":"2014-05-17T18:55:28","date_gmt":"2014-05-17T18:55:28","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/canoe.stephencoleman.net\/?p=49"},"modified":"2014-06-17T02:04:16","modified_gmt":"2014-06-17T02:04:16","slug":"a-quick-update-and-a-video-challenge","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/canoe.stephencoleman.net\/?p=49","title":{"rendered":"A quick update, and a video challenge!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em><strong>I know that<\/strong> <\/em>it&#8217;s been too long since I updated this blog.\u00a0 8 days to be exact.\u00a0 I just haven&#8217;t had much progress to report, and last week was an incredibly busy week.\u00a0 I had something to do \/ somewhere to be every evening this past week.\u00a0 I have something else going on right now that&#8217;s very pressing, and <em>Tales<\/em> may be on the back burner for awhile.\u00a0 I&#8217;m still writing the book, and actively working on the manuscript, so my goal for completion remains set for the early part of 2015.<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Recently, I remembered<\/strong> <\/em>a video I shared with my students several years ago.\u00a0 At the beginning of each class, I would usually start off by having them write a &#8220;response prompt.&#8221;\u00a0 This prompt could be anythingthat would actively engage thinking.\u00a0 I would often write something on the board that would lead them to think and compose their thoughts on paper.\u00a0 We would then spend the next 10 minutes or so of class discussing their answers.\u00a0 One day I came across a website for a project called the <a title=\"National Film Challenge Website\" href=\"http:\/\/www.nationalfilmchallenge.org\/\">National Film Challenge<\/a>.\u00a0 You can find out what it&#8217;s all about by clicking on the link in blue.\u00a0 Basically, amateur film makers from all over the United States submit their creations to be judged each year.\u00a0 &#8220;12505 \/ 12507&#8221; was a film that was created by Ben Simms in 2010 for the Film Challenge.\u00a0 I came across this film several years ago, and I found it to be very thought provoking.\u00a0 After watching it, I shared it with my classes for their response prompt one day.\u00a0 We had some great discussion about the hidden meaning within the film.\u00a0 I invite you to watch the film (It&#8217;s very short&#8230;6:45), and write comments responding to the questions I&#8217;m asking below.\u00a0 For me, the film evokes a lot of emotions.\u00a0 I know what &#8220;12505 \/ 12507&#8221;
